This is in three parts.
First, Lois has a dormant ability in Siren's Pull, not currently active but still subtle. Once she is aware of it, she will be able to trigger it more specifically and more powerfully, with increasing power as she gets better. The power is not exactly telepathic, and relies as much on physical tells (think of Cal Lightman in Lie to Me). It would take control of both to fight her.
Disclaimer: The description is of Judge's Ear Technique, taken directly from the Exalted core rulebook, property of White Wolf.
Secondly, Lois is an investigative reporter, checking into sketchy clubs, companies, gangs, and situations as well as murders. She also builds a lot of contacts (NPC and PC) all around the city. She may not have the forensic genius, but she's got intuition and drive and is very, very good at her job. She also gets into a lot of trouble that nearly gets her killed.
If you'd like to be an info source or like to place a limit on what she can find out in her investigations, this is the place to let me know. Naturally, this is for casual day-to-day stuff; big stuff I will discuss at length before hand.
Lastly, Lois cracks pop-culture references often and is verging on genre savvy. Because her world is vaguely real-world, some canons are specifically referenced. I will keep this updated as I rewatch the series (it could take a while), and if there is a specific change which would affect your character I will message you.
If you want to know how deep or complicated her knowledge of a canon is, just ask me, and if you have specific requests regarding her not-remembering things, just let me know here. She will in general know better than to say anything, and does not fangirl. (Much.)
UPDATED 10/26/11: The (currently recorded) specifically referenced canons are:
- Greek mythology (questionable)
- Egyptian mythology
- Star Wars
- Star Trek
- Wizard of Oz
- ET (questionable)
- Peter Pan
- Chicken Little
- Little Mermaid
- Sherlock Holmes
- Scooby Doo
- Popeye
- Mickey and Minnie
- Christmas Carol
- 1001 Arabian Nights
- Sex and The City
- Disney in general (questionable, but given the above trend...)

The character can recognize as lies all deliberate lies presented to her. The character can also recognize the deliberate use of half-truths, though doing so does not tell her which part of the statement is true.

Contact info: aim: JainaX, plurk: effervescible, email: jaina.x@gmail.com
Character name: Roxas
What limitations do you want to place on her truth-sensing?: Nothing really. Roxas is not a good liar anyway so she probably doesn't even need it. If she should get interested in investigating the freakshow that is the KH canon, I guess just hit me up for plot, but even if they ICly try to keep some things quiet, that doesn't always happen.
Do you want your character to be a source?: If she's interested in the seedy world of coffee, sure.
Is there any specific info she should never find?: Not that I can think of.
Anything else?: Nope! I'm boring.
Character name: Nina Fortner
What limitations do you want to place on her truth-sensing?: None really
Do you want your character to be a source?: She's also got nothing now, but if she had a reason to be in the future, sure.
Is there any specific info she should never find?: (Naw.
Anything else?: Still boring.

Character name: Jason Todd (but with many, many aliases including John Doe, Red Hood, Darkwing)
What limitations do you want to place on her truth-sensing?: I would say none for now because Jason lies all the time, to both himself and others, but this may change depending on interactions between them (in that he would get annoyed if she was constantly telling him to stop lying - which I don't think she would but I don't know the character super well <3).
Do you want your character to be a source?: No, as he's not the type to give out information for free. So unless they struck up some kind of deal, he wouldn't.
Is there any specific info she should never find?: Right now: his multiple identities work somewhat similarly to Batman's, but his face has been linked to the Red Hood identity as a vigilante, so that's open.
Anything else?: IDK?

Character name: Rochelle
What limitations do you want to place on her truth-sensing?: I got nothing. Rochelle doesn't have many deep dark secrets so there's not much she would be keeping from Lois. The worst of it, unless plot calls for it, would probably just be extra personal, extra emotional crap since she doesn't like wearing THAT much of her heart on her sleeve if something like a death is making her upset.
Do you want your character to be a source?: SHE ALREADY IS.
Is there any specific info she should never find?: Not that I can think of right now!
Anything else?: They need a secret handshake--I mean.

Contact info: kawreee@AIM is probably the most reliable way to get a hold of me, but i am also on Plurk (http://www.plurk.com/kawree)
Character name: Axel
What limitations do you want to place on her truth-sensing?: nah, you're fine. Axel's something of a compulsive sidewinder, but he doesn't usually all-out lie, actually, so it might be fun to screw with her and play Figure Out Which Part is the Lie~
Do you want your character to be a source?: i'm down with this. Axel's a bit of a double agent, so it could be interesting.
Is there any specific info she should never find?: not specifically that i can think of, no.
Anything else?: "Lois Lane, please put me in your plan~ Yeah, Lois Lane, you don't need no Superman~" /shot
all 90's bands aside, i want all the CR and you are included, so COME AT ME BROSIS.

Contact info:It's listed on the contact page!
Character name:Yosuke Hanamura
What limitations do you want to place on her truth-sensing?:Nothing really. He's not too hard to read anyway, not much of a poker face for the most part. If it's something really important he'll lie, but in general he's not a very good fibber.
Do you want your character to be a source?:At the moment he's brand new, so he would be a terrible source!
Is there any specific info she should never find?:She doesn't seem like a video gamer (right?) so I don't think there's anything!
Anything else?:I'm friendly and pretty much always up for plotting. I can't see where Yosuke would interest her, but if for some reason he does, feel free to hit me up and we can shenanigans.

As far as accidental canon-breaking, for one she's pretty careful, and for another: while she does actually play video games, she doesn't tend towards JRPGs (while I do, sob) so I'm not sure she would have ever played Persona. More to the point: no specific canon references (unlike Storm Troopers or Vulcan hand symbols). Hope that clarifies that for you.

Contact info: sceadugesceaft (on AIM), although PMing this journal will also work.
Character name: Luxord
What limitations do you want to place on her truth-sensing?: None. Luxord doesn't usually so much lie as step delicately around the truth (and I'm fine with her knowing when he actually is lying).
Do you want your character to be a source?: I don't have any problems about it, although she probably won't get a whole lot out of him (unless she has any interest in gambling).
Is there any specific info she should never find?: Not that I can think of, anyway.
Anything else?: I hope she likes card/gambling metaphors if she wants to talk to him. |Da

Recognizing deliberate lies and deliberate half-truths makes me think telepathy/ psionic type powers, but with that name it could be subsonic cues and the like. Or it could be other stress signals. Or it could be analysis of the physical reactions in the brain.
The power type makes a huge difference about how well it'll work on this telepath here.

It's not exactly Judge's Ear in how the ability actually works; it is the best succinct textual description of what it does, in that it finds lies and half-truths, and was my inspiration for her power more than anything.
"The power is not exactly telepathic, and relies as much on physical tells (think of Cal Lightman in Lie to Me). It would take control of both to fight her."
If you know what to look for there are physical tells--minute gestures, breathing pattern changes, facial muscle shifts--that all tell whether someone's lying.
If you want a detailed version: the mutation will provide Lois with the ability to read physical tells both inside and outside the brain that otherwise she wouldn't be able to: muscular tells and--what she won't know unless someone points out to her she's doing it--the chemical reactions in the brain and body as well.

When Emma is telling half-truths, I think it would be on a case-by-case basis. Emma's habitually careful of what she says, and the difference in her body language et al between "telling you A, B, and C to lead you to true conclusions D" and "telling you A, B, and C to lead you to false conclusion D" is going to be minimal most of the time. If she's saying A by itself when it's literally true but utterly misleading, that's going to be easier to pick up.
